1. Risperidone for the treatment of acute and chronic schizophrenia and various other psychotic states with obvious positive symptoms (eg. hallucinations, delusions, disorganization, hostility, suspicion) and obvious negative symptoms (eg. sluggish reaction, emotional and social apathy, and low speech). It may also reduce the emotional symptoms (eg. depression, guilt, anxiety) associated with schizophrenia.

2. It can be used to treat manic episodes of bipolar disorder, which are characterized by elevated mood, hyperbole or irritability, high self-evaluation, reduced sleep requirements, rapid speech, wandering thoughts, distraction, or poor judgment (including disordered or aggressive behavior).
