Gemfibrozil can lower cholesterol and triglyceride, and does not cause bile to form stones. It can reduce the synthesis of very low-density lipoprotein triglyceride and activate lipoprotein esterase to speed up its clearance from the blood, so it has a good triglyceride effect, in addition to lowering cholesterol and raising high-density lipoprotein. It is mainly used in primary and secondary hyperlipemia, hyperlipemia caused by diabetes.
